The primary responsibility of a multi-modality technologist performs any 2 combination of procedures with related techniques, producing images for the interpretation by, and at the request of, a licensed independent practitioner. EX: CT, XR & MRI.

  • Performs duties for any two imaging modalities. (ex: XR, CT) (ex: ARRT, RDMS)
  • Operates equipment and accessories including selecting the proper coils, physiologic gating devices, and associated equipment to achieve desired results. Performs portables as needed.
  • Selecting appropriate sequences with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.
  • Obtains patient's clinical history and appropriate lab work ensuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner. Use of POC device for Lab work.
  • Applies Safety principles with a focus on MRI safety by identifying and removing items to minimize risk to patient, self and others that may affect the patient’s safety, damage the equipment or affect the image quality.
  • Provides radiation protection and hearing protection for the patient and others
  • MRI technologist screens all patients, family members and staff for ferrous and RF sensitive material before anyone enters the magnet field.
  • Verifies patient identification using two patient identifiers and the procedure requested or prescribed by validating the order.
  • Performs venipuncture including starting, maintaining and/or removing intravenous access.
  • Identifies, prepares and/or administers medications/contrast as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Uses a power injector for the administration of medication with approved vascular access device. Follows manufacturer guidelines regarding infusion rates and pressure.
  • Maintains controlled access to the magnet room and supervises Zone 2, 3 and 4. Serves as MRI Safety Officer in the absence of the MRI leader while working in any imaging dept.

Required Minimum Education: Vocational/ Technical Degree


Specialty/Major: Radiology or Nuclear Medicine


Preferred Education: 2 Year/ Associates Degree


Specialty/Major: Radiology or Nuclear Medicine


Licensing/ Certification - If registration, certification or licensure is required, include the name of the accrediting or licensing body.


Licensure/Certification Required: ARRT, NMTCB, RDMS


Licensure/Certification Preferred: ARRT, R, MR, CT , US, N, M


Minimum Qualifications


Minimum Years and Type of Experience: 1
