The Buyer/Planner is a critical member of the manufacturing team. They are responsible for purchasing and negotiating pricing on incoming materials and supplies, inventory management, shipping, and receiving. This position also helps to maintain the flow of information within the manufacturing group via production reports, and other recordkeeping mechanisms.


Key responsibilities:

  • Prepare production reports, budgets, and schedules
  • Run weekly physical inventory, purchase raw materials and consumable supplies based on production demand.
  • Define appropriate Kanban levels for raw material and consumables, and order from approved vendor list to maintain these levels
  • Identify alternate sources for equipment, and negotiate and/or support negotiation of pricing for capital purchases.
  • Prepare hazmat shipments for transport to customer from record keeping, pack out, to final shipment pickup.
  • Research and develop processes for shipping to international customers and maintain compliance with all export regulations.
  • Follow all documented shipping/receiving, purchasing, and reporting procedures. Update all SOPs based on any changes required by the business.
  • Monitor production cost center costs, update changes to cost center spending estimates and assist in developing annual cost center budgets.
  • Be knowledgeable and comply with all pertinent safety policies, rules and regulations.
  • Ensure legal and company policies on record retention are followed.
  • Handle compressed gas cylinders, drums, material handling equipment


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business preferred. Associate’s degrees will be considered with additional experience
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Database experience, including troubleshooting in an admin role.
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Prefer 3+ years' experience in purchasing, inventory management, or an Admin Support Role, manufacturing industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of internal controls for purchasing/competitive bidding, and inventory management (including receiving and shipping practices)
  • Negotiation skills
  • Advanced MS Office computer skills.
  • Experience in determining HTS Codes is a plus
  • DOT and IATA certification in Hazardous Materials shipping is a plus
