Purpose
The Simulation Technology (ST) Specialist serves as a technical expert who can program, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair simulation equipment including virtual reality (VR), audio visual, and high-fidelity manikins in The University of Texas School of Nursing’s Simulation and Skills Center (SSC). The SSC is the largest department withing the Learning Enhancement and Academic Progress (LEAP) Center. A successful candidate will have a high degree of professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills for collaboration with a variety of learners.
Responsibilities
- Works collaboratively with SSC Leadership, faculty, and staff to plan, develop, implement, and monitor the SSC VR Simulation Program.
- Collaborates with the Simulation Nurse Educator to integrate VR into current simulation program. Including: VR programming, planning, implementation, and data collection .
- Prepares faculty and Teaching Assistants (TAs) for virtual reality simulations by conducting VR simulation technical and operational training .
- Prepares students for virtual reality simulations in coordination with faculty VR simulation training .
- Instructs and supports faculty, staff, and students in the use and operation of VR equipment .
- Demonstrates technical proficiency with all aspects of healthcare simulation including programming, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of VR and high-fidelity simulators. Participates in public relations activities within the LEAP department that directly support the school of nursing including demonstrations, tours, and other special events .
- Communicates in a positive, professional manner with faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders of the SSC and LEAP center .
- Other department support activities as required by the SSC & LEAP director .
Required Qualifications
Minimum of an associate degree in Information Technology or technical certification in a computer technology field (e.g. gaming, simulation programming networking, helpdesk, etc.).
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years of informational or gaming technology experience preferred.
- Healthcare experience (any) a plus.
Salary Range
$42,000 - $45,000

- Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
