  • Communication and technical aptitude are critical in this role as the Prototyping Project Manager will be the liaison between Hardware Engineers and the prototyping team and will assist with determining project priority and feasibility.
  • The Prototyping Project Manager will manage and develop a network of partners and suppliers used to support operations, varying from consumable procurement to outsource manufacturing.
  • The Prototyping Project Manager determines core competencies of the service, defines interfaces with partners and customers, and sets a framework for prioritization and feasibility.
  • Operational efficiency is key, and the Prototyping Project Manager will play a critical role in continuing to build a strong foundation for the team to build from. The RL Concept Prototyping team includes a full suite of capabilities to accomplish rapid prototype manufacturing, assembly, and design services our customers require.
  • We move fast and are looking for a person who is driven to find the most effective and efficient ways to solve complex problems related to prototyping.




Responsibilities


  • Source and track CNC, 3D Printed, Injection Molded prototypes
  • Work closely with the RL Concept Proto and RL Hardware Organizations
  • Coordinate engineering support with hardware departments
  • Communicate project status to internal engineering requesters
  • Lead meetings to gather and disseminate information on projects, as necessary
  • Evaluate project scope and timeline against available resources, and develop resource plan
  • Support all shop build events as required
  • Support all machine setup events as required
  • Be a conduit for communication between the shop and the engineering team
  • Track functional requirements and alignment against design revisions
  • Must be proficient in project management software to track all project activity and resource planning
  • Work in JIRA /Asana/ or equivalent project management software to track tasks, conduct resource planning and drive on time completion of all work
  • Utilize your understanding of production, prototyping, and fabrication process and the time, cost, and quality tradeoffs to support the function and growth of the team
  • Help with miscellaneous tasks; ex., moving things, loading and unloading of materials and machines (with proper training).


a. Review tooling inventory weekly.

b. Review cleaning supplies inventory monthly.

c. Review PPE inventory weekly.

d. Produce list of raw materials that need to be reordered every week.

e. Help create or improve systems for organizing materials.

f. Regularly check and ensure that all hand tools are in the right place.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent
  • Need to be organized and flexible to changing scope and project priority changed
  • Knowledgeable in consumer electronics and prototyping processes
  • Open mindset and eager attitude to solve problems
  • An understanding of production, prototyping, and fabrication process and the time, cost, and quality tradeoffs
  • Prior project/program management experience
  • The ability to learn, think creatively, solve problems, and work hard
