Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in product design or UX.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12 years of experience in product design or UX.
  • 5 years of experience working in a complex, cross-functional organization.
  • 4 years of experience leading design projects.
  • 3 years of experience working with executive leaders.

About The Job

The Augmented Reality (AR) Design team works on technologies to enable the next generation of immersive experiences and devices. We design, prototype, and research the experiences and interactions that set the direction for Google's emerging products in Augmented and Virtual Reality; products that deliver on a promise to provide our users with lovable, approachable, and truly helpful technology.

In this role, you will craft a process and product goals that align the team with product stakeholders in a cohesive, collaborative way. The ideal person will work with their team and collaborators to define a goal for core experiences at the foundation of our AR product. You will apply your passion for craft and quality to guide design processes and mentor talented members of your team.

As a User Experience (UX) leader, you will help define and drive the future of Google design. You will identify and set design principles, envision complex UX ecosystems, and inspire teams to push the boundaries of what’s possible. You possess a clear goal of the future of user experience and have the courage to pursue forward-thinking design.

You will apply your experience and passion for craft and design to guide, mentor, and lead a team of designers to ensure we build loveable, helpful, and approachable AR systems

The Google Augmented Reality team is a diverse group of experts tasked with building the foundations for great immersive computing and building helpful, delightful user experiences. We're focused on making immersive computing accessible to billions of people through mobile devices, and our scope continues to grow and evolve.

Responsibilities

  • Build a coherent vision of the experience for AR/VR products to inform core engineering and product investments.
  • Lead interaction design for foundational aspects of our AR products and platforms, from concept exploration through implementation, working closely with UX, Hardware, Program Manager, ID, and software engineers to build designs.
  • Inspire, direct, and motivate a highly talented team in creating breakthrough UX design work.
  • Implement culture and principles within the group, while setting new standards in executional and operational excellence.
  • Ensure user focus from ideation through execution. Provide thought leadership in collaboration across disciplines, including design, strategy, technology, and leadership to create compelling frameworks, align with users' needs, and deliver products and experiences.
