Your Impact
Jacobs Space Exploration Group (JSEG) is comprised of 10 companies and is located at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL (ranked Best Place to Live by U.S. News 2022). JSEG has been a primary contractor for NASA since 1989 and supports marquee NASA programs, including the Space Launch System, International Space Station, space optics fabrication, earth and space sciences and advanced propulsion system development.

Responsibilities
This position will provide Virtual Reality (VR)/Augmented Reality (AR) support to the System Analysis Branch (EV74) and Human Factors Engineering (HFE) team in support of a variety of programs that the Marshall Space Flight Center supports. The successful candidate will support the Virtual Environment Lab (VEL). The candidate will coordinate and interface with multiple engineering disciplines, system elements, and customers, as well as participate in reviews, meetings, working groups, task teams, and trade studies.
The candidate will provide and perform the following tasks
- Assist in integrating multiple technologies into a cohesive virtual environment for analysis purposes.
- Assist in working with software developers to solve issues between software/hardware being used to perform the VR/AR assessments.
- Update programming tools for various AR/VR platforms.
- Participate in showcasing the VEL’s capabilities to external customers for future work.
- Participate in worksite analyses using virtual assessments software such as Process Simulate Human (PSH) to evaluate hardware designs against the requirements in the SLSP Human System Integration Requirements document.
Here’s What You’ll Need
Qualifications
Pursuing a BS or MS degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or related field of study from an ABET accredited university or specialized engineering knowledge that is related to the task is required.
The Candidate Is Required To Have - Understanding of how VR/AR is used to help engineering assessments.
- Knowledge in coding/using any of the following software packages
- Unity
- C#
- Unreal Engine
- Microsoft HoloLens for Augmented Reality capabilities
- Siemens Process Simulate Human (JACK)
- Knowledge in or used any of the following hardware
- Vicon Camera system with Shogun software.
- HTC Vive VR HMD or other SteamVR connected HMD
- Microsoft HoloLens 2 or other AR HMD
- Critical thinking, effective communications, and good problem solving skills.
- Personnel are required to be self-motivated, team players willing to work in dynamic work environments.
- Comfortable with technical writing and presentation skills.
- Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Desired (presence of one or more of these qualifications will be used as discriminating factors in selecting applicants)
- Experience using PSH, or Jack.
- Experience with CAD software such as CREO, SolidEdge, or SolidWorks.
- Experience with 3D modeling or animation of human models
- Familiarity/knowledge of NASA, MIL, or FAA Human Factors standards.
- An understanding of the NASA systems engineering processes and familiarity with the Space Launch Program (SLS) Program.

Essential Functions
Work Environment
Office and laboratory environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%).
Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%).
Physical Requirements
Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at MSFC facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Requires sitting at a desk to write reports and perform engineering task activities (15%). Requires standing, sitting and walking in a lab environment. Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10%).
Equipment and Machines
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, telephone, task related software, and other general office equipment (25%). Requires the ability to operate CAM programs along with manual and CNC machine tools (75%).
Attendance
Normal workday is from 730 a.m. to 430 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required. Work schedules for intern employees will be established based on mutual agreement between candidates and employer based on the employer’s normal work schedule and the intern’s academic and personal needs.
Other Essential Functions
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
