Position Summary
We, called as "Tokyo Laboratory 10", are a division of R&D center located in Tokyo, Japan. Our mission is developing the XR core technologies and preparing all related technologies to launch new XR business. We demonstrated the 4K VR-HMD prototype including our technologies at the event "Sony Technology Day 2021". We are focusing on three areas as the core technologies: The first one is XR display systems like Head Mounted Display to present the virtual or mixed reality to deliver the "be moved" experiences to users. The second one is a tool-and-methodology that support XR content creation workflow to attract to their creators and publish wide variety of XR contents. And the last one is the "Metaverse" system that enables users in different communities, cities, and countries in the real world to connect in a virtual world.
XR is a sort of challenge that redefines human-computer interaction, and therefore XR core technology development requires true full stack engineering in both hardware and software: the hardware side includes mechanical, electronic, and optical designs, and the software side includes computer visions, real-time 3D graphics, physics and motion planning used in game engines, parallel algorithms applicable to GPU or FPGA, video/audio codecs, real-time OS, wired and wireless networking, machine learning, and so on.
The position, that we call "XR system engineer", is expected to have expertise in some technology areas and also have curiosity for various related technologies, and is also expected to propose and develop new research themes that combine his/her expertise with Sony's unique hardware like CMOS image sensors.
Key responsibilities include:
Develop XR core technologies as follows:
■ AR/VR rendering technology to show virtual objects with sense of presence just like real one or to provide new expression of reality.
■ AR/VR system technology to realize ultra low-latency, power efficient, and small form factor to wear.
■ AR/VR content creation technology to attract to creators or to realize new generation of the content production workflow for Metaverse or in Metaverse.
And integrate above technologies into XR prototype system and show its technical demo applications with game engines
■ Become a worldwide high-class engineer after acquiring most advanced technology on AR/VR.
■ Become a leader or a core member of the development team which delivers our original technologies into the world as a product/service with other departments in R&D or a business unit.
■ Collaborating with global Sony group companies, you can create a business value as a AR/VR engineer for business unit of electronics, game, entertainment, medical, finance, and so on.
Key qualifications include:
■ Master's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
■ 8 years of experience with one or more general purpose programming languages including but not limited to: C/C++ and Python.
■ Collaboration, teamwork and knowledge sharing within the group.
■ Research-minded, curious, with a keen interest in new technology development in your field.
■ Ability to speak and write in English fluently and idiomatically.
Preferred qualifications include:
■ Advanced degree in computer science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related technical field.
■ Experience with one or more of the following: computer visions, real-time 3D graphics, physics and motion planning used in game engines, parallel algorithms applicable to GPU or FPGA, video/audio codecs, real-time OS, wired and wireless networking.
■ Experience with AR/VR/MR application/middleware/system development.
■ Experience handling both research and development.
■ Experience architecting and developing solutions to ambiguous problems.
Product, Service:
XR device, Game(PlayStation®), Entertainment(Music, Movie) etc.
