NEXT: Director of Experience


HLW is currently looking for a Director of Experience as part of its NEXT Studio to lead our growing team of digital storytellers. The Experience team tells design stories through visualization and fabrication technologies providing fast and cost-effective ways for project stakeholders to communicate their ideas and solve problems.


We are charting new ground through visualization and extended reality by enabling our clients, designers, and partners to collaborate more inclusively in our shared understanding of the spaces we co-create.


What You Will Do


  • Work with NEXT and global Leadership to craft firm-wide business, goals, vision, and strategy for the Experience team focused on internal process and growing our services.
  • Regularly interface with colleagues and Leadership across the organization to understand day-to-day opportunities in the context of firmwide goals.
  • Build a 5-year vision and roadmap for Experience team resourcing and impact.
  • Collaborate with Director and Design Principals to create experiential frameworks and standards for HLW’s project types.
  • Direct the creation of and provide subject matter expertise in a variety of high-quality exterior and interior architectural 3D models, renderings, XR, audiovisual, video and motion graphic experiences.
  • Lead art direction on visualization for projects globally.
  • Rapidly construct accurate high-quality visual experiences.
  • Manage public messaging around HLW’s Experience team and services.
  • Work independently and with project teams in creating representations of design sketches or developed projects.
  • Mentor Visualization Artists and Designers in experience/representation.
  • Develop a network of strategic relationships with visualization and experience production teams in adjacent businesses and industries.
  • In partnership with the CIO, Director of Innovation, and Director of Research, develop advanced spatial visualization tools for our data.
  • Pursuing industry grants for research driven efforts and development of visualization tools and connectors.
  • Produce training and best-practice documentation for the Experience team and design team to elevate overall quality and effectiveness of HLW’s design storytelling.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Media or related program with 5 - 8 years of experience, or Associate's degree with additional relevant experience
  • Expert in After Effects, Realtime Rendering, 3D Studio Max, Vray, Enscape and the Adobe Suite, and knowledge of Revit interoperability.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, ability and love of making something from nothing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Capable of synthesizing information from many different sources.
  • Demonstrated expertise with a wide range of digital tools for design and construction.
  • Proven experience building healthy teams that deliver results.
  • Strong supervisory, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to set priorities and develop accountability framework for teams.


Ideal Qualifications


  • Experience with Immersive Collaborative VR platforms such as The Wild or Unity Reflect.
  • Experience creating digital twins including the integration of live data streams into real time visualization.
  • Experience with reality capture tools including photometry and LiDAR based approaches.
  • Experience in the creation of live action and motion video productions.
