Who are we hiring?
This is a Motion Graphics Compositor role joining the growing MSG Sphere team in early development of technology and content for the MSG Sphere studio. Initially, this artist will work in the Motion Design team alongside Capture, Creative Development, and the rest of Post Production to enable both process and ideation in support of content delivery. This artist will be a part of a larger post-production team, creating final content for MSG Sphere venues. This role requires a Compositor with deep knowledge of 2D animation techniques and integration of 3D renders with graphics and live action plates. While experience with 3D applications such as C4D, Houdini, or Maya/Blender is not required, it is certainly a plus. The Motion Graphics Compositor is responsible for integrating assets delivered from other members of the Motion Graphics team into final composited imagery for the Sphere exterior and interior display systems. Working knowledge of spherical imagery such as dome or 360º video is preferred but not required for this role. Ideal candidates have an appetite for creative execution and are forward thinking and technologically inclined.
What will you do?
- Motion Graphics Artists are responsible for applying design thinking to solving Sphere-specific content challenges.
- Seamlessly integrate various layers of 2D, CG and live action shots to achieve looks from stylized to photoreal.
- Develop compositing templates, toolkits, and scripts to increase productivity.
- Problem solve technical issues in After Effects, Nuke, and other compositing software.
- Composite sequences of shots with consistency across all shots.
- Generate proofs and decks for client and internal approval.
- Work with supervisor to determine creative and technical approach on projects.
- Tackle shots that may require roto, tracking, paint, 2D animation, or keying.
- Remain up to date with trends in art, design and technology.
- Work with a collaborative team to solve complex challenges and contribute to the team’s best practices and workflows development from 2D animation to compositing.
What do you need to succeed?
- Must have Demo reel/portfolio demonstrating variety of motion design-related compositing work.
- Proficiency is equivalent to 2-7 years of experience working as mograph artist and or CG compositor
- Full understanding of video compression, codecs, bitrates, frames rates and aspect ratios
- Experience working as compositor within high-end VFX pipelines for commercials, VR, Film, TV or theme parks a plus.
- Understanding of techniques related to CG rendering and compositing.
- Expert knowledge in Nuke and Adobe Creative Suite required, with adaptability across other potential software such as C4D, Maya, Houdini, Z-Brush, Blender, Resolve/Fusion, and other 2D or 3D digital content creation tools.
- Knowledge of rendering engines such as Redshift, Octane, VRay, Arnold, or others is a plus.
- Exceptional attention to detail in photography, color, color space, light and composition
- Good communicator with positive and creative problem-solving attitude.
- Positive attitude and proven track record in creative problem solving with expressed interest in new technology and processes.
- Software agnosticism a plus; adaptability to new pipelines and utilization of provided tools is critical.
