Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in C/C++, including data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience with camera image sensor technology, image signal processors, hardware encoders, and communication protocols.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working with embedded operating systems.
  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies.
  • Experience with bare-metal or RTOS-based microcontroller development in C or C++.
  • Experience with of one or more of the following: microcontrollers, SoC, DSP, device drivers, hardware bringup, power management, ARM processors, firmware, or hardware/software integration.

The Google Augmented Reality (AR) team is a group of engineers, designers, and research scientists tasked with building the foundations for great immersive computing and prototyping helpful, delightful user experiences. We're focused on making immersive computing accessible to many people through mobile devices, as our scope continues to grow and evolve.

As part of the team, you will be responsible for overall camera device software for an innovative AR device.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and develop an entirely new camera pipeline on an embedded, real-time platform that spans embedded central processing units (CPUs), microcontroller units (MCUs), digital signal processors (DSPs), and custom peripherals.
  • Write robust, reliable, efficient, and testable low-level software to interface with sensors and ISPs over I2C and mobile industry processor interface (MIPI).
  • Work closely with other device software teams to help design and debug the foundational software that our camera device software is built upon.
  • Work closely with the software teams that are the consumers of our camera data to ensure their requirements are being met.
  • Work closely with hardware teams and external vendors to deeply understand the sensor, image signal processor (ISP), encoder capabilities and how to optimize for them.
