Summary

The Digital Experience Manager manages The Dalí’s digital exhibitions and companion apps. This talented individual will source and partner with innovative agencies to create interactive experiences that let people engage with art in new ways to better understand it, connect to it and gain inspiration from it. They are charged with developing new digital, audience engagement experiences/apps which are informative, immersive, visually inspiring and experimental in terms of both storytelling and technical innovation.


The Digital Experience Manager is not a software developer, but can speak the language with both software and hardware partners; they are not an IT pro but may come from that world and can translate hardware needs & technical issues to IT teams; and they are not a writer or designer but work with marketers to ensure digital experiences are on-brand. They are creative, methodical and analytical – can set a vision for new experiences (with the business acumen to contemplate monetization) while project managing the details to ensure timely delivery, then analyze data to continually optimize the experience.

 

The Digital Experience Manager has a passion for digital (a student of the game) – meaning they read pubs & listen to podcasts to keep their finger on the pulse of emerging technology and generally have a strong interest in how these tech-trends can transform the way people experience the world. They are also passionate about the cultural arts and believe there is nothing more beautiful than the convergence of art and science.

 

This position reports to The Dalí's COO.

 

Responsibilities

  • Source new software developers; write RFPs, review proposals & negotiate terms
  • Manage partnerships with software developers/vendors 
  • Establish and maintain a project roadmap and product requirements   
  • Project manage new digital experience development and revisions/updates and associated budgets
  • Project manage on-site installations (with the Facilities and IT/AV teams)
  • Analyze data from digital experiences & apps to both optimize them and to glean data for new experiences


Keep their finger on the pulse!

  • Review digital trends, translate into vision/ideas for future experiences
  • Review emerging hardware and work with IT to find/order hardware & storage solutions that best fit the Museum’s needs
  • Identify "fast follow" opportunities for innovation based on shining examples of immersive experiences in- and outside-industry


Monetize digital experiences as feasible including seeking licensing partners to drive reach and revenue


Work with Marketing to:

  • Ensure digital experiences are visually aligned with the brand
  • Share data from digital experiences that impact the brand overall; and conversely, to leverage market & visitor data to optimize digital experiences
  • Provide information and input for marketing-communications efforts that leverage digital experiences to drive brand awareness and engagement


Work with Curatorial/Education to:

  • Research, source and develop content for digital experiences
  • Leverage digital experiences in educational pursuits (such as VR in classrooms)

  • Dalí Lives (artificial intelligence)
  • Dreams of Dalí (virtual reality)
  • Masterworks in AR (augmented reality; part of app*)
  • *The Dalí app (via 3rd party)
  • YOUR PORTRAIT (artificial intelligence)
  • 3 in-development digital experiences

 

Note: This role is not responsible for the website (TheDali.org), email, social media and digital- advertising which the Marketing department oversees.


Background/Experience

  • 5+ years in related field, preferably in the cultural-arts or with a progressive organization
  • A bachelor's degree preferred in marketing, design or business
  • Strong understanding of digital design principles and use of space
  • Excellent technical understanding (reminder, this is not a development nor IT job)
  • Effective communication skills – ability to translate technical concepts into digestible concepts for non-technical staff, paradoxically translate museum/art vision into digestible requirements for software developers & designers
  • Strong business acumen
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to multi-task, working on multiple projects and with multiple agencies and internal departments simultaneously
  • Highly developed and proven organizational skills
  • Exhibit a positive and involved team attitude and maintain open communication with co-workers & vendors/partners
