About The Role


DigiLens is seeking a seasoned and capable Senior Optical Engineer to join our Optical R&D team to design and develop DigiLens’ next generation waveguide displays and holographic manufacturing technology. The role provides the opportunity to take your career to the cutting edge of the rapidly developing AR/VR/MR market. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully implementing optical design solutions in a wide range of applications, including display related applications, and will be prepared to work alongside a world class, cross functional team of team of optical, mechanical, electrical and material engineering specialists.


Requirements


Ideally the candidate will meet all of these requirements:


  • Excellent optical design skills with Zemax, or equivalent.
  • Experienced with diffractive / holographic technology design an implementation.
  • Experienced with optical system design and trade offs in a broad range of optical applications.
  • Highly proficient with optical hardware set up, including alignment, test, and debug.
  • Direct experience of near-to-eye or head-up displays for AR / VR.
  • Experienced with microdisplay and miniature projection technology.
  • Proficient with Matlab / Labview, or equivalent environments.


Who You Are


  • M.S. / Ph.D in Optics, Physics, or a related Engineering discipline, with 8+ years industry experience (5+ years with PhD), or equivalent.
  • Excellent spoken, written and visual communicator to enable effective problem solving.
  • High energy, self-starter and driven to work in a startup environment.
  • Excellent time and task management skills.
  • Passionate about optical engineering and (AR/MR/VR).
  • A natural team player with excellent cross-functional teamwork skills, capable of mentoring, inspiring, encouraging, junior optical engineers and technicians.


Responsibilities


  • Design and develop optical architectures for DigiLens waveguide optical devices as required by DigiLens technology roadmap and other business requirements.
  • Work within cross functional discipline teams to make design concepts a physical reality.
  • Generate and maintain detailed documentation on design summaries, hardware performance measurements, fabrication instructions, process developments, improvements, and inventions.
  • Work directly or with other DigiLens engineers to perform hands-on building and testing to ensure that hardware meets design specifications.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers as needed.
  • Provide support and training documentation to transition solutions developed by R&D team to manufacturing teams, and to customers, including training engineers and technicians as required.
  • Support on going business development and provide optical training as required by the business.
