Essential Job Duties

The Immersive Environments (IE) Student Advisor helps support the growing Virtual and

Augmented Reality (VR/AR) offerings at the NCSU Libraries. IE Student Advisors

provide excellent customer service and assist patrons with specialized technology needs

in the D.H. Hill Jr Library VR Studio. Students will staff the Studio, helping users with

technologies such as VR/AR headsets and games/experiences, development software,

360° video, 3D modeling, and more. They will also be responsible for installing and

maintaining some equipment, answering questions and providing introductions to the VR

Studio. Students will also work on projects to support the space, including demonstration

projects with 360°video & virtual content, developing and teaching workshops, and

exploring new technologies.

IE Student Advisors must be capable of committing VR Studio policies and procedures

to memory, and be comfortable working without continuous supervision. Students should

be comfortable interacting with a variety of patrons coming from all academic disciplines,

backgrounds, and experience levels. Consideration and work schedule will be based on

availability; may include nights, weekends, and University holidays. Some moderate

lifting, up to 30lbs, may be required.

Work Schedule Aprox 10-15 hours/week. Monday - Friday, 10am - 8pm

Minimum Experience/Education

Must be a currently enrolled NCSU student.

Department Required Skills

Excellent communication and customer service skills. Flexibility and willingness to learn

new skills/information and take on new tasks. Students need not be from a technical

major, but should have interest or skills in one or more of these areas: virtual reality

software/hardware, game design, 3D design, video production, instruction, technology

accessibility.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

Experience in any of the areas listed above. Software and hardware skills may include some combination of: Windows computing environment, real-time development, 3D

modeling/creation tools, or use of creative tools such as the Adobe Creative Suite.

Teaching or facilitation experience in a formal or informal setting or interest in such

instruction. Optionally, we welcome a project portfolio included with your resume, or

linked to on the Web.
