Job Summary
Vermeer is seeking a Senior VR Developer to build VR drone simulations alongside a team of VR and robotics engineers. The ideal candidate has significant experience with Unreal Engine virtual reality, and multi-user experiences.
The team at Vermeer coalesced around a shared awe of augmented & virtual reality in 2017. We aimed to solve real problems with the technology and developed one of the first AR drone applications, used on the film sets of Universal, Paramount, and Warner Bros. Now, Vermeer develops commercial and defense products in mixed reality and artificial intelligence. We are a growing company; as such, candidates must be cross-functional and eager to participate in all aspects of the product life cycle, including user discovery, design, sprint planning, development, unit testing & QA, and deployment.
Responsibilities
- Build multi-user VR drone swarm simulations using Unreal Engine
- Build projects as plugins to Virtual Tactical Assault Kit (VTAK): https://www.ara.com/vtak-virtual-tactical-assault-kit/
- Collaborate with design team to develop and iterate on user interfaces
- Collaborate with robotics engineers to integrate Scrimmage swarm simulator into VR environment: https://github.com/gtri/scrimmage
- Integrate AirSim drone simulator into Unreal: https://microsoft.github.io/AirSim/
- Configure and deploy game server for multi-user collaboration
- Configure and deploy government-approved cloud backend for database and storage
- Lead a team of 2-3+ engineers across VR development and embedded systems integration
Requirements
- 3-5 years experience shipping Unreal/VR products
- Significant experience building VR games and experiences with Unreal Engine, including system architecture design, gameplay interactions, and networking
- Strong command of c++ and OOP concepts
- Strong command of Unreal Blueprints
- Well equipped to build/integrate networking clients in Unreal
- Experience with cloud backends, e.g. Azure, Firebase, AWS
- Experience with game servers for real-time multi-user applications
- Cross-functional experience working with designers to develop prototypes and user interfaces
- Experience writing unit and integration tests
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with Hololens 2 and Microsoft Mixed Reality Toolkit for Unreal
- You have experience working in a startup environment or innovation team
- You’ve shipped something similar – from beginning to end.
- Experience with Virtual Tactical Assault Kit (VTAK)
- Prior experience with Microsoft AirSim
