Overview
Veeco is looking for a Commodity Manager who will be responsible for ensuring the most cost-effective supply strategies in support of business objectives for the material categories assigned. This person will apply skills in understanding Veeco’s business requirements, performing market research, and working across product lines, functions, and with suppliers to create commodity strategies and a supplier base that best leverages Veeco’s dollars and meets its’ objectives of quality, delivery, customer service, and cost. This person is to have a broad understanding of the material categories assigned, will be looked to as the “go-to expert” for the company, and participate in the strategic direction of the organization. The Commodity Manager will participate in the strategic direction of the supply chain organization, striving to meet or exceed external and internal customer expectations and committing to continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership in and provide insights into the market for the material categories assigned, including industry trends, cost drivers, global pricing, lead times, technology, manufacturing capability, and the suppliers in the market that best meet expectations and objectives.
- Create, execute, maintain, and continually improve upon category strategies for the assigned material categories; focus on current and future alignment of technology requirements, and achieve objectives in terms of the total cost, lead time, capacity, inventory management, risk mitigation, and overall supply chain effectiveness.
- Determine requirements, supplier rationalization, supplier and supply chain development, dual sourcing, risk management, and supplier financial assessment.
- Lead cross-functional teams to create and execute category strategies, continuous improvement, and supply projects; facilitate medium size groups effectively and engage management as necessary.
- Effectively listen and consistently communicate expectations, requirements and issues with suppliers, stakeholders, and management across functions and business units and within the supply chain organization.
- Identify, analyze and solve supply problems.
- Negotiate best-in-class price, quality, delivery, payment, delivery terms, and customer service requirements that align with business objectives.
- Negotiate agreements and contracts to establish a framework for the working client / Supplier business model, facilitate the needs of the business relationship, manage supply risk, and meet business objectives.
- Lead, coordinate and support on-site supplier visits, assessments, and audits.
- Lead continuous improvement opportunities to improve upon total cost and address issues with supplier performance.
- Support corporate goals related to quality, cost, customer service, and inventory management.
- Support the creation and execution of the vision Veeco has for its’ supply chain organization.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business or a related field is required along with 8+ years of progressive experience in purchasing/supply chain management. At least 2 years of experience in category management/strategic sourcing is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- APICS or CPM Certification is highly desired
- Experience working with cable assemblies, electronics, and/or capital equipment is a plus
- Complete knowledge of all aspects of Purchasing including but not limited to: source selection, price/cost analysis, negotiation, purchase justification, and documentation
- Understanding of Purchasing Law as it applies to the purchasing function
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills
- Strong negotiations skills
- Must be detail-oriented, and able to work on multiple tasks independently in a fast-paced environment
Notice for Colorado applicants as required by CO SB19-085. Target annual salary for this role performed in Colorado is $108,370 + bonus + benefits (including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), employee stock purchase plan, tuition reimbursement, etc.).
