Senior Research Engineer for Device Radio Research & Standardization
The Nokia Device Research & Standardization Team is looking for an ambitious and top engaged colleague to strengthen our device research activities in Aalborg/DK, Munich/DE, Espoo/FI or Oulu/FI. We are looking for top-motivated and highly skilled researchers.

The team you'll be part of is the Nokia device research and standardization group. Nokia device research and standardization group is a research group providing solutions to 3GPP for next generation networks and devices. We develop standards and device related concepts that are disseminated internally and externally as well as protected by patent applications.

Specifically, your role includes the following responsibilities:
- Radio research in the area of communication protocols and physical layer for devices
- Develop high quality intellectual property (IPR’s) and support strengthening of Nokia IPR portfolio
- Develop device implementation concepts/solutions supporting our standards contributions in 3GPP.
- Ensure active participation in 3GPP for the related research to push Nokia research into standardization
- Working as part of a team with the ability to work independently as well
- Develop leading research in the area of terminal and devices
- Influence the next generation mobile communications and standards
- Participate to wireless access research strategy creation process
- Contribute and participate in customer dialogue on latest wireless technology trends
Requirements: - Strong system background in 5G or LTE is a prerequisite
- A background with a master’s degree or equivalent is required
- A profound understanding of the area of radio access systems is a prerequisite
- A profound understanding of the area of cellular devices is a prerequisite
- A good understanding of radio access solution & product portfolio and wireless business strategy is required
- Understanding of XR (AR,VR,MR) media and entertainment is a plus
- Understanding of device test and validation for 3GPP based devices is a plus
- Background knowledge of AI/ML methodologies and hands-on experience on AI/ML tools is a plus
- Experience in 3GPP standardization will be a plus
- Additionally, you must cover at least one of the following areas
- Device RF implementation, architecture and system performance
- RX and TX physical layer architecture and design
- L1/2/3 protocol SW architecture and implementation
- Radio wave propagation including mmWave
- Positioning methods in 5G-Advanced and beyond
- Device test and validation for 3GPP based devices
Perfect technical background:
- 5+ years as development engineer or research on device cellular modem area
- Multi -national and distributed environment
- Extensive exposure to international interworking culture, experience in leading distributed teams is an advantage
- You are proactive, creative and eager to follow and search for latest research results!
- Fluent English skills is a requirement
